Xiaoying Shi is a research scientist of the Terrestrial Systems Modeling group in the Environmental Sciences Division and the Climate Change Science Institute. Dr. Shi is a expertise in land model development, innovative model application and evaluation against observation, and coupled Earth system model application and analysis. She is acknowledged as an expert on coupled model configuration and application within the E3SM project and also within the human dimension subcomponent of E3SM. Dr. Shi has also actively pursued research questions in the area of wetland process modeling. For this research aspect, She already successfully implemented the microtopography and hydrological dynamics with the land surface model framework. She is now expanding her wetland modeling efforts to consider moss species, the changes in temperature and moisture, CO2 concentration on soil biogeochemistry and vegetation processes.
