Valerie Fudurich is a Nuclear Safety Analyst in the Reactor Analysis and Modeling (RAM) under the Nuclear Safety and Experiment Analysis (NSEA) group in Research Reactors Division. She received a B.S. (2014) and M.S. (2016) in Nuclear Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University before starting at ORNL as an intern and transitioning to a full time position in 2018. Her engineering focus is thermal hydraulics and reactor modeling with 1-D nuclear system codes. Using HFIR plant models in RELAP5, she supports safe operation of the HFIR. Other analysis tools include some familiarity with TRACE and COMSOL Multiphysics.
Primary responsibilities:
Nuclear safety analysis for drawing updates, deviations, and modifications to assigned HFIR systems. Trend reporting for the Radiation Monitoring Systems Plant Health Committee.
Thermal hydraulic analysis of HFIR transients using RELAP5. Incorporate new analysis, regulator comments, and feedback into the HFIR Safety Analysis Report as the Chapter 15 Accident Analysis Lead.
RELAP5 analysis to support HFIR fuel conversion to Low Enriched Uranium (LEU).
Active on RRD's Software Configuration Control Board (SCCB).
