Stefano Castro Tognini

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Stefano Tognini is a Research Associate at the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division as a member of the HPC Methods for Nuclear Applications Group.

Before joining ORNL, he received his Ph.D. in Physics, with emphasis in Experimental High Energy Physics from Federal University of Goias, after working at Fermilab and ANL on two neutrino experiments, namely MINOS and NOvA. These are decade long, worldwide endeavors to answer questions on neutrino physics, astrophysics, dark matter, and more, which provided him opportunities to work with different teams on a wide set of tasks and topics, including testing detector electronics, maintaining detector operation centers, developing Monte Carlo, and performing data analyses.

At ORNL, his main efforts are now focused on a collaboration encompassing ORNL, Fermilab, ANL, and LBNL that aims to develop a GPU-based Monte Carlo particle transport code for High Energy Physics experiments.
