Bio
Dr. Saket Thapliyal is an R&D Associate Materials Scientist within the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Saket’s current research focuses on establishing chemistry-processing-structure-properties relationships in additively manufactured alloys, including multi-principal element alloys (aka high entropy alloys), refractory metals and alloys, and ferrous alloys in energy generation. Subsequently, he leverages these relationships and computational tools, including CALPHAD for designing microstructures and novel alloys for extreme environments (e.g., high temperature environments, nuclear environments, and hydrogen-rich environments) highly relevant to energy generation and advanced transportation. This approach has produced novel alloys that exhibit a synergy of additive manufacturing-processability, application-specific microstructural attributes, and high-performance. Saket received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas. He received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering at the Uttarakhand Technical University, India.
