Bio
Dr. Saket Thapliyal is an R&D Associate Materials Scientist within the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Saket’s current research focuses on establishing chemistry-processing-structure-properties relationships in additively manufactured high entropy alloys, refractory metals and alloys, and ferrous alloys and subsequently leveraging these relationships alongside computational tools, such as CALPHAD for designing microstructures and novel alloys for extreme environments (high temperature environments and hydrogen-rich environments). This approach has produced novel alloys that exhibit a synergy of additive manufacturing-processability, application-specific microstructural attributes, and high-performance. Furthermore, Saket is also investigating the hydrogen-microstructure interaction and the mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement in metals and alloys. Saket received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas. He received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering at the Uttarakhand Technical University, India.
