Bio
Dr. Ruhul Amin is a Solid-State Chemist and Material Scientist with expertise in the field of energy storage and conversion technologies with specific interest in both understanding fundamental mechanistic phenomena as well as developing commercially deployable applications. His research portfolio comprises two strategic directions (a) portable and long-duration energy storage systems: conventional lithium-ion, sodium-ion and all-solid-state batteries, (b) energy conversion systems: solid oxide (SOFC) and polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Dr. Amin’s current research focus is on the development of electrolyte and electrode materials, interfacial engineering, and optimization of transport properties towards enabling batteries that can operate in extreme conditions. Dr. Amin obtained his Doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Max Planck Institute (MPI), Germany. He also holds Masters and Bachelors (honors) degrees in Chemistry from Dhaka University, Bangladesh. After his doctoral study, Dr. Amin joined MPI as a Max Planck fellow following which he accepted a joint position at Phostech Lithium Inc. and the University of Montreal as a Research Officer. Prior to joining ORNL, he worked at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a senior research scientist followed by a brief tenure at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) as a senior scientist.
