Dr. Philip C. Roth is a computer scientist on the research and development staff of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  He joined the lab in 2004 as a founding member of the Future Technologies group within ORNL's Computer Science and Mathematics Division.  In 2018, he joined the Scientific Computing group of the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) where he supports application projects that target current and future OLCF computers.  As of late 2020 he leads the Algorithms and Performance Analysis group within the NCCS Science Engagement section.  His research interests involve techniques and tools for software characterization and performance analysis, evaluation of emerging technologies and the programming models needed to use them, and extreme-scale computing for science and engineering.   In his spare time, he enjoys playing and listening to music, cooking and baking, and outdoor activities.
