Dr. Peterson combines mathematical methods with computing to advance time-of-flight neutron diffraction. These methods improve the productivity of SNS beam lines. He continually advances the communities' understanding and ability in real space representation of structural information, commonly known as pair distribution function (PDF). Peterson is the ORNL project leader for the Mantid software. Mantid is an international collaboration on a framework to manipulate and visualize data from neutron scattering experiments. He received his PhD in condensed matter physics using neutron and x-ray scattering from Michigan State University. Prior to joining ORNL, he was a postdoctoral research associate providing software for the Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) at Argonne National Laboratory.
