Michael Morath

Backend Developer

Michael Morath is a Software Developer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has a bachelor's degree in computer science and experience working with both the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy. He is experienced in a wide variety of tech stacks and has notably focused on geospatial intelligence and hardware verification in the past. He has a variety of strengths including, but not limited to, an attention to detail, experience as a scrum master, experience working in both large and small teams, experience and a history of great adaptivity to different environments, tech stacks, and situations, and much more.

From August 7th 2018 -  October 20th 2022, I worked as a Software Developer with the title "Developer II" at a company called Edaptive Computing Inc in Dayton Ohio. The work primarily focused on contracts for the Department of Defense, particularly the Air force due to the close proximity to a nearby Air Force Base. I was a full-stack developer and worked on multiple Agile frontend and backend projects. I utilized a variety of tech stacks during this time. Examples are Java, C#, Typescript, Angular, React, Bootstrap, Jquery, SQL, SVN, GIT, GraphQL, .NET, Azure, Docker, and much more. Some work in this area was related to Hardware Verification and i've developed a passing familiarity with hardware description languages like VHDL, Verilog, PSL, and System Verilog. Additionally towards the end of my employment here, I was the Scrum Master of two projects and I had acted as a backup Scrum Master before that.

From October 31st 2022 - December of 2023, I was hired as a Java Developer by a contractor called ITR to work on their behalf for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. I worked primarily with a tech stack that primarily focused on Java, Python, ElasticSearch, Postgres, Mariadb, etc. The work was primarily focused on geospatial intelligence.

From December 2023 to the present, I've been hired directly as Oak Ridge National Laboratory as staff as opposed to working for them indirectly through ITR.  My title has changed to Backend Developer in this transition.

I initially attended Fairmont High School and graduated with a diploma in June of 2012.

I then went to Sinclair Community College until August 2014 where I initially earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences as I initially determined what I wanted to do.

From there, I went to Wright State University until April 2028 where I was earned a Bachelors degree in Computer Science after solidifying my career plans.

Beyond formal education, I've also attended some courses on PluralSight while employed by Edaptive Computing Inc as well as some courses at LinkedIn Learning while employed by Oak Ridge National Laboritory. I also do some independent studying with books in my spare time on occasion.
