Bio
Dr. Latif Patwary is a transportation researcher and a postdoctoral research associate in the Transportation Analytics and Decision Sciences group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a concentration on Transportation Engineering from the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) in December 2023. He also holds two master’s degrees: one in Agricultural and Resource Economics and another in Statistics & Data Science from UTK.
Dr. Patwary builds data driven models and decision support tools that improve how transportation systems perform, operate, and serve people. His areas of expertise include travel behavior analysis, freight transportation data and planning, transportation data analytics, geospatial analytics, Bayesian modeling, estimating fuel consumption in the transportation sector, applications of ML and AI methods in transportation and decision sciences, transportation economics, and traffic safety analysis. He collaborates with federal and state agencies, including the US Department of Energy, the US Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
To date, Dr. Patwary has authored 14 journal articles and 8 technical reports and delivered more than 25 conference presentations. Recently, he has been appointed for a 3-year term as a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Travel Behavior and Choices. Additionally, he serves as a peer reviewer in top journals, including the TRB Annual Meeting, Transportation Research Record, Transportation Planning and Technology, Accident Analysis & Prevention, PLOS One, and Intelligent Transportation Systems, having completed 50+ reviews.
