Jordan M Roach

Nuclear Security Scientist

A native of Syracuse, NY, I earned my B.S. in chemistry from Saint Michael's College in Vermont followed by my PhD in actinide chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 2023. Studying under Dr. Peter Burns and in collaboration with Dr. Khachatur Manukyan, my graduate dissertation focused on the combustion synthesis of uranium oxides and their mechanisms. In the summer of 2022 I interned at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Glenn T. Seaborg Graduate Research Fellow within the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT).

Following my graduate studies I performed a two year postdoctoral research appointment under the mentorship of Dr. Tyler Spano at Oak Ridge National Laboratory within the Materials and Chemistry Group, Nuclear Nonproliferation Division. During these two years my work focused on the establishment and applications of actinide combustion synthesis capabilities at ORNL as well as studies on spectroscopic signatures of uranium oxides and fluorides.

During the summer of 2025 I have converted to a full time staff R&D position within the Materials and Chemistry Group at ORNL. My work continues to look at the combustion of actinide oxides and its applications to nuclear nonproliferation as well as additional broader research of uranium materials pertaining to the nuclear fuel cycle.
