John German

US ITER Quality and ES&H Manager

John German is the quality and environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) manager of US ITER.  In this role, he works closely with the US ITER Project team to support continued success in its hardware deliveries.

John joined the US ITER project in 2023 after more than a decade with the defense contractor Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. There he most recently served as the top-level quality manager for Newport News Shipbuilding at the U.S. Navy’s Kesselring Site in New York, overseeing quality assurance and control for all disciplines including nuclear, mechanical, electrical, and structural applications. He began his career at Newport News Shipbuilding as a nuclear engineer, rising through positions of increasing responsibility that included senior nuclear engineer, nuclear engineering manager, quality assurance engineer manager, and quality control manager.

John earned a bachelor's and master's degree in physics from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.
