Jin Whan Bae is a Nuclear Reactor Analyst in the Research and Test Reactor Physics Group within the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division (NEFCD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He joined ORNL as a postmaster associate in 2019 and became a staff member in 2020.

Jin's research experience cover a wide range of topics including fuel cycle modeling and analysis, fission and fusion reactor physics analysis and reactor design, and machine learning applications for nuclear engineering. He works on various fission and fusion reactor designs - the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), PWRs, BWRs, MSRs, and fusion reactor neutronics. His specialties are connecting multiple tools and data flows to create streamlined, reproducible analyses, for reactor design studies.

Jin earned an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018. His M.S. thesis focused on fuel cycle studies, in particular transition scenarios from once-through cycles with LWRs to closed, continuously reprocessing cycles with fast-spectrum reactors, MSRs and SFRs.
