Harley D Skorpenske

Harley Skorpenske is responsible for sustaining and continuously improving safe and reliable operations across the suite of neutron scattering instruments at the Spallation Neutron Source. He achieves this through engagement with his group members to ensure they have the skills and support necessary to be successful in their roles, which include experiment planning and execution, as well as instrument maintenance and upgrades.
Harley has been at ORNL since 2006, where he started as a Technician and later became a Scientific Associate helping to build Vulcan - the Engineering Materials Diffractometer, before taking on his current role as Group Leader. Prior to coming to ORNL, he helped operate a high temperature superconductor materials research laboratory at the University of Houston. He has a B.S. in Electrical Technology from the University of Houston and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
