Harley D Skorpenske

Senior Technical Staff Member and Group Leader, SNS Science Support 1

Harley Skorpenske is responsible for sustaining and continuously improving safe, reliable, and productive operations across the suite of neutron scattering instruments at the Spallation Neutron Source. He achieves this by way of fostering a culture of trust, engagement, and integrity with his group members to ensure they have the skills and support necessary to be successful in their mission critical roles supporting the Neutron Sciences General User Program.

Harley has been at ORNL and SNS since 2006, where he started as a Chopper Technician and later became a Scientific Associate helping to build Vulcan - the Engineering Materials Diffractometer, before taking on his current role as Group Leader in 2012. Prior to coming to ORNL, he helped operate a high temperature superconductor materials research laboratory at the University of Houston. He has a B.S. in Electrical Technology from the University of Houston and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
