Dr. Elizaveta Tiukalova is an R&D Associate at ORNL in the electron Microscopy and Microanalysis (eMMA) group. She received her Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from Nanyang Technological (NTU) University, Singapore, in 2022, where her research interests focused on the applications of cryogenic scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) to study sensitive Li-ion battery and energy materials. Prior to her Ph.D, she obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Applied Physics and Mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (Phystech, MIPT). Her current research interest focuses on unraveling the relationships between atomic structure and electronic properties in quantum materials and related emergent phenomena, utilizing aberration-corrected cryogenic STEM imaging and monochromated electron spectroscopy techniques. Her particular interest lies in the exploration of 2D TMD materials and their van der Waals heterostructures to uncover their fundamental properties and potential applications.
