Brian Etz

Research Scientist and Integrated Research Liaison

Brian Etz is a Research Scientist in the Workflows and Ecosystem Services (WES) group at the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) within Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In his role, Brian is dedicated to advancing workflow and technology research and development across the Advanced Technologies Section. He serves as a scientific liaison, fostering collaboration and integrated research with a wide range of scientific domains.

Brian holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Susquehanna University, which he earned in 2015, and a Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry from the Colorado School of Mines, awarded in 2020. His research experience encompasses a variety of fields, including biomimetic photocatalysis, biofuel combustion, nuclear waste processing, and material science research. Throughout his research, Brian has employed a synergistic blend of experimental and computational techniques to drive innovation and discovery.

Prior to joining ORNL in 2024, he participated as an ORISE postdoctoral fellow at the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) applying computational chemistry to explore remediation technologies for the removal of environmental contaminants.
