Workflows and Ecosystem Services Group

Mission Statement: The Workflow and Ecosystem Services (WES) group researches, develops, and deploys scalable workflow and data technologies that advance the NCCS mission, empowering researchers to harness distributed computing and data ecosystems across the OLCF, the American Science Cloud (AmSC), and the Genesis Mission platform.

WES designs and implements workflow, data, and ecosystem technologies that enable reliable, automated execution of scientific applications across heterogeneous and geographically distributed computing environments. Our work spans the full research lifecycle integrating compute, storage, networking, and visualization resources into cohesive, end-to-end systems that operate seamlessly across DOE facilities and partner platforms.

A central focus of WES is enabling efficient movement, transformation, and use of data at scale. By leveraging advanced networking capabilities and developing workflow-aware data services, we help researchers deploy complex, data-intensive workflows that fully exploit leadership-class resources without requiring deep expertise in the underlying infrastructure.

Through close collaboration with domain scientists, facility operators, and platform teams, WES delivers robust ecosystem services that standardize and optimize workflows across facilities. These capabilities allow researchers to spend less time managing tools and environments, and more time generating insight, accelerating discovery, and advancing scientific impact.
