Alex M Botts

R&D Assistant Staff

Ms. Alex Botts is an R&D Assistant Staff Member in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) group at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). She provides technical support to DOE AMO’s Better Buildings, Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge program as a Technical Account Manager (TAM) by providing industrial sites with technical assistance activities, energy assessments and training, and energy management guidance. She completed her B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University (WVU) with a thesis focused  on twin-tower desiccant compressed air dryers.  Prior to joining ORNL, Mrs. Botts was a Research Assistant (Lead Student) in the U.S. DOE's Industrial Assessment Center of WVU (WVU-IAC) for energy, productivity, and waste assessments. Mrs. Botts is continuing her research in energy intensive systems found in manufacturing with an emphasis on compressed air systems, software development, and the designing and dispatching of an energy treasure hunt program.

 

MEASUR Software Tool Development (2020 – Present)

  • Leading the re-development and enhancement of the DOE AirMaster+ legacy tool and algorithm, general engineering assistance with the software 536 downloads of v0.9.2, 14 new calculators, 403 issues opened, 349 issues closed

FEMP Treasure Hunt Program (2021 – Present)

  • Leading the development of a new energy treasure hunt program for the FEM program that specifically focuses on federal facilities. This included reimagining and enhancing existing treasure hunt materials/kits, organizing and presenting webinars to federal military facilities, and interfacing with FEMP team members and federal site sustainability leaders.

Better Plants Technical Account Manager (2020 – Present)

  • Support the Better Plants Program as a Technical Account Manager (TAM) for manufacturing partners by interfacing with companies, assisting partners improve the energy management programs, researching new technology, analyzing partner energy related data, serving as the compressed air and treasure hunt expert for the team, and producing literature and tools for the industrial audience. 

WVU Industrial Assessment Center (2016-2019)

  • Performed 40+ onsite energy audits for small to medium industrial facilities and small businesses while teaching students industry accepted energy efficiency standards and heuristics through the report writing process
