SCALE Computational Methods for Burnup Credit

This course describes the use of SCALE computational methods and tools to perform actinide and fission product burnup credit calculations. The course reviews the depletion capabilities of the Polaris lattice physics code, details basic and advanced burnup credit criticality safety calculations with STARBUCS/KENO, and describes the validation requirements for k-eff and isotopic composition calculations, including uncertainty analysis. Applications to burnup credit of the ORIGAMI tool for convenient characterization of spent nuclear fuel with radially and axially varying burnup are also introduced.  Summaries of relevant research in burnup credit to help guide analysis decisions are also presented. Previous experience with SCALE is recommended.
