Recently, electromagnetic suspension systems have become more popular in passenger vehicles. They are superior alternatives to existing conventional passive hydraulic suspension systems. The objective in this paper is to design a new adaptive, not reactive, electromagnetic suspension system. This is performed through two fixed permanent magnets and one electromagnet system packaged as a bolt solution for vehicles. Once combined with other sensors in the vehicle, the proposed electromagnetic system can provide the first fully adaptive suspension system in vehicles.
