Abstract
The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) is updating its biokinetic and dosimetric models for internally deposited radionuclides in a series of reports called the OIR (Occupational Intake of Radionuclides) series. This paper describes the basis for the ICRP’s updated biokinetic model for radiocarbon inhaled as carbon dioxide (CO2) by workers and compares model predictions and derived dose coefficients for inhaled 14CO2 with those based on the model for occupation intake of CO2 recommended by the ICRP since the 1980s.
