Hinton was cited for "outstanding service to the ORNL Administrative Advisory Council and the ORNL Solid State Division." She was also credited with promoting career development among the nonexempt staff, implementing and editing ORNL's 'FYI' bulletin and for helping to improve work force diversity activities in the workplace.
This honor is the third Hinton has received in the past two years. Others included a 1993 President's Award for Continuous Improvement and a 1994 ORNL Significant Event Award for recognition of her service to the ORNL Administrative Advisory Council.
Hinton has been a member of the Administrative Advisory Council and has served as Work Force Diversity representative for the Solid State Division since 1993. She is co-chairperson of the Nonexempt Staff Development Ad Hoc Committee and is a member of the ORNL Administrative Computing Steering Committee.
She has also served on the ORNL Secretarial Fix-it Committee, on the ORNL Communications Committee and on the Martin Marietta Energy Systems Macintosh Forms Development Committee. She is presently serving as division coordinator for the Payroll and Labor System implementation.
Hinton has held several positions at ORNL since 1973, including senior secretary for the associate division director of the Solid State Division.
Hinton graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1972, attended The University of Tennessee's Two-Year Secretarial Program, and became a Certified Professional Secretary in 1992.
She lives in Oak Ridge with her husband, Stephen, a subcontract administrator for the Procurement Division of Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, and her two children, Scott, 16, and Erin, 13. She is a member and Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
