Lu Receives Award from American Chemical Society

Po-Yung Lu of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has been presented the Tillmanns-Skolnick Award by the Chemical Health and Safety Division of the American Chemical Society. Lu, who heads the biomedical and environmental information analysis section of the laboratory's Health Sciences Research Division (HSRD), was recognized his "outstanding, long-term service to the division." Lu has served as the division's program chair for the past four years.

Lu joined ORNL in 1979 as a member of the Information Division and later worked in the Biology Division before transferring to HSRD in October 1987. Previously, he served for several years as a research associate and scientist at the University of Illinois Institute for Environmental Studies.

A native of Taiwan, Republic of China, Lu received his bachelor's degree in biology from Fu-Jen University. He earned his master's degree in zoology and his doctoral degree in environmental toxicology from the University of Illinois.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Society of Toxicology. Lu lives in Oak Ridge with his wife, Tse-Yuan. They have two children, Brian and Janet.

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory, one of the Department of Energy's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Martin Marietta Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
