Lenoir City resident named vice-chair of biosphere group

March 3, 2005 — Pat Parr — who oversees natural resource management and land use planning integration at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory — has been elected vice-chair/chair-elect of the executive committee for the Southern Appalachian Man and the Biosphere Cooperative.

The organization is composed of federal and state agencies that identify and implement a broad range of resource management and sustainability initiatives, examining natural, political and geographical boundaries.

Parr, who is with ORNL's Facilities Operations Directorate, is president of the Tennessee Exotic Pest Plant Council and president of the Leadership Loudon County Alumni Council. She is a past president of the Association of Southeastern Biologists and is a member of the board of the East Tennessee Regional Leadership Association.

She and her husband, Ron — who works in networking and computing technologies at ORNL — have two children. They are Bobby — a junior attending James Madison University in Virginia — and Elizabeth — a freshman at Lenoir City High School.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
