System Automation and Monitoring Research

Utilizing intelligent automation to develop world-class manufacturing technology

The System Automation and Monitoring Research Group is housed at ORNL's Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF). The group is focused on developing and maintaining technology to enable the next-generation manufacturing platforms at ORNL. This work includes electrical and safety system design, sensor integration and monitoring, and software development for toolpath generation.

The team offers a diverse background including materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Together, they support nearly every system at the MDF from electrical connection and inspection to process monitoring and toolpath planning.
