The Distinguished Staff Fellowship program attracts the best and brightest minds to ORNL. Fellows span all our research directorates and are engaged in investigating methods for shortening the development cycle for new materials used in nuclear technologies, materials for solid-state batteries for mobility and electrification, additive manufacturing of high-performance ceramics for power generation, and quantum computing applications for high-energy physics, and more.
The DSF program, established in 1976, has been exceptionally successful in bringing top talent to ORNL. Researchers who started their careers as DSFs have become leaders in their fields, with some building new research programs and others becoming Corporate Fellows at ORNL. DSFs have also gone on to earn prestigious honors and awards and have been named fellows by national and international professional societies.
