Preserving ORNL History

Oak Ridge National Laboratory has a huge inventory of items, such as photographs, pieces of equipment, etc., which relate to the history of the Laboratory. Much of this is unlabeled or unidentified. Volunteer members of the Friends of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (FORNL) are reviewing the artifacts and identifying them. FORNL members are a tremendous resource for this task, with their extensive corporate memory and personal involvement in the history of the Laboratory. Other efforts include the establishment of permanent storage for these items and conducting tours of the Oak Ridge Reservation. Recently, a task has been undertaken to prepare audio and video recordings of the extensive amount of historical information held in the memories of pioneers who played significant roles in the Oak Ridge saga.
