The Freight Analysis Framework (FAF) is a robust database developed by ORNL in collaboration with the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration. The FAF houses the most comprehensive, publically available database of freight movements and provides accurate estimates for tonnage, value, and ton-miles by origin, destination, mode, and commodity type. Policy makers and transportation planners in the public and private sectors rely on FAF as a critical tool in making strategic decisions in the planning, operation, investment, and asset management of America’s freight system.
