ORNL is developing a comprehensive powder-to-part characterization methodology using correlated multi-length scale data. Rapid characterization and evaluation of advanced manufacturing designs is essential for the development and deployment of critical components needed in the nuclear, gas turbine, aerospace and automotive industries. ORNL is also utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning to control material properties, enabling entirely new methodologies for integrating design within the additive manufacturing process. ORNL is developing controls designed to produce born-certified parts in the additive manufacturing process.
