Sajjan Pokhrel

Associate R&D Staff

Dr. Sajjan has an interdisciplinary background in engineering and energy. Sajjan earned his PhD in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. His doctoral research focused on developing numerical models to understand heat and mass transfer processes in complex geological formations for the extraction of geothermal energy. Prior to his PhD, Sajjan received his Master of Science in Energy Engineering from Wright State University in Ohio, and his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tribhuvan University in Nepal.

At ORNL Sajjan is involved in multiple Geothermal and Thermal Energy Storage (TES) projects including geothermal heat pumps in abandoned  underground mines, Reservoir Thermal Energy Storage for data center cooling, Underground Thermal Battery (UTB), Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), etc. He served as the Vice-President of Oak Ridge Postdoctoral Association Executive Committee (ORPEX-25).
