Ava Harvey is an instructional designer and training program manager for the Learning Sciences Group with 36 years experience in designing, developing, and delivering learning solutions. She has 28 years of qualifying nuclear workers, both developing and teaching complex disciplines related to nuclear security and nuclear safety initiatives serving qualification and compliance of requirement capabilities that meet leadership goals.
She is currently managing the production of an extensive eLearning curriculum for the IAEA’s nuclear security efforts, delivering a catalog of courses in six languages and available to the international nuclear security community on behalf of the DOE and DoD’s non-proliferation mission. She is key in managing the ongoing availability and delivery of these online educational resources for the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) member states.
Ava has developed and presented workshops on PMBOK project management processes and consulted on training projects for both the government and private sector. In addition to conventional training and workshops, Ava is an experienced asset to the non-proliferation community by offering solutions involving capability and curriculum gap analyses, curriculum and learning paths, just-in-time products and knowledge bases, learning management systems, and custom products for knowledge transfer and reference. She works closely with subject matter experts to design online, virtual, in-person, and job-aid products aimed at effective implementation for the end user. This often includes case study development, video story activities, games, and group activities that enhance learner engagement with real-life lessons and metrics.
Ava has led projects resulting in DOE award-winning technical training curriculum, established a training evaluation program for institutional training at ORNL, holds DOE professional training certifications, and is a Kirkpatrick Certified Professional in training program evaluation.
Previously, Ava served as Interim Director of ORNL’s Office of Technical Training and led Lockheed Martin’s five-site initiative for the nuclear criticality safety training program. Ava has a collective 28 years of serving ORNL learning programs and holds an active Q-clearance.
