Director, Isotope Processing and Manufacturing Division

Joshua Schmidlin is the director of the Isotope Processing and Manufacturing Division and brings more than sixteen years of technical and operational leadership experience across nuclear fuels research, nuclear operations, and isotope production.

Josh most recently served as the Section Head for the Radiochemical Engineering Development Center (REDC) Isotope Processing Section, managing several IPMD groups, including the REDC Hot Cell Operations Group, REDC Laboratory Chemical Operations Group, REDC Materials Operations Group, and the 7930 Operations Group. In this role, he oversaw more than 50 staff dedicated to radioisotope processing in REDC.

Josh began his journey at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2008 as an undergraduate intern, later joining the staff full-time after graduation. His early career included over five years as a Development Engineer with the Nuclear Fuel Materials Group, supporting fuels and materials research across two hot cell facilities. He then spent five years as the Technical Laboratory Manager for the Low Activation Materials Development and Analysis Laboratory (LAMDA), where he advanced the characterization of irradiated materials. Following that, he led the 3047 Operations Group and the REDC Hot Cell Operations Group, contributing to the Department of Energy Isotope Program.
