Bio
Tyler graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in the spring of 2021. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Reliability and Maintainability.
Tyler joined ORNL in 2022 as a Lab Technician subcontractor within the Labs & Soft Matter Group. The group's mission is to facilitate pioneering science by providing reliable support services, maintaining laboratory spaces, and streamlining sample management. As a Labs & Soft Matter technician, he provided external users and staff with lab and experiment support at the Spallation Neutron Source. This involved the management and processing of samples, maintenance of laboratory services, upkeep of equipment, and collaboration with a diverse team of professionals.
In January 2024, Tyler moved into a new role as Waste Services Representative supporting SNS. He provides waste management expertise in all areas of waste including laboratory waste/excess, radioactive materials, construction/demolition debris, and supporting beamline operations. This role is focused on complying with RCRA regulations, ORRL acceptance criteria, ORNL procedure for radioactive material handling, and creating DOT compliant packages for all types of situations. Waste services coincides with transportation, so Tyler has become familiar with DOT regulations (49 CFR) and EPA regulations (40 CFR). Tyler has undergone two RCRA-focused trainings and an Advanced DOT Training course with a focus on radioactive and mixed waste shipments.
