Bio
Rebecca Anderson (Welbourn) is a Neutron Scattering Scientist in the Reflectometry group at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), where she works on the Liquids Reflectometer, BL-4B. Before joining ORNL, she spent nine years at the ISIS Neutron & Muon Source in the UK. She holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry (Surface Chemistry) from the University of Cambridge.
Rebecca's research uses neutron reflectometry, combined with other surface analysis techniques, to study how external stimuli interfluence interfacial structures at the solid/liquid and air/liquid interfaces. Her work has applications across soft matter and physical chemistry, examining effects such as oxidation, shear, temperature changes, competitive adsorption, and electric potentials. In addition, Rebecca is keen to support the development of experimental instrumentation and analysis software for reflectometry, as well as fostering collaboration within the international reflectometry community.
