Melissa G Madgett

Staff Engineer

Melissa is a staff engineer in the Utilities Division, Facilities and Operations Directorate.  

She tracks electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and water consumption and costs to support building staff, facility modifications, researchers, DOE reporting activities, and for customer cost recovery. Energy projections and cost estimates are developed for budgets and future mission growth impacts.  

Melissa assists with EPA Air Permit Compliance for generators and maintains a database of runtime activities for EPA and TDEC reporting.

Melissa supports Sustainable ORNL with data for the Site Sustainability Plan and Dashboard, for Road Maps of Energy Use Intensity, Water Use Intensity, Renewable Energy, and Greenhouse Gas categories.  Melissa participates in the Carbon Pollution-Free Electricity and Net-Zero Campus activities.  Other support is provided for the Annual Laboratory Plan, FIMS reporting, and utility metering configuration and data.  She also reviews the annual Measurement and Verification Report for the Energy Savings Performance Contract with Johnson Controls.

She has also conducted energy audits at government facilities to identify energy saving measures, quantify their impacts and cost saving opportunities.  She has designed HVAC and ventilation systems and supported their construction, and conducted Air Balance Testing in HVAC systems.

Melissa is the co-chair for the Employee Resource Group "Women in Mission Support" (WiMS) to help highlight and support persons involved in the 'behind the scenes' activities at ORNL.  WiMS provides fellowship/networking opportunities and participates in local outreach activities, including the Aid to Distressed Families in Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) annual backpack packing for school supplies. She also participates in the Women's Alliance Council and the Parent-Caregiving Sub-Committee.

Melissa also enjoys outdoor activities, especially road cycling, running, and hiking.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University.  She is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
