Jubair Shamim
Associate R&D Staff Member, Multifunctional Equipment Integration Group, Building and Transportation Science Division
Bio
Dr. Jubair A. Shamim is an Associate R&D Staff Member in the Building and Transportation Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, USA. His research focuses on developing desiccant technology for moisture management in buildings, adsorption heat pumps for energy efficient heating and cooling, affordable thermal energy storage, hierarchical micro/nano surfaces and interfaces for phase-change enhancement, direct-to-chip cooling, waste heat recovery and reutilization, and advanced heat and mass transfer solutions for buildings, industry, and data centers.
Dr. Shamim holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, an M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering from Seoul National University, ROK, and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh. He then pursued postdoctoral training with Prof. Hirofumi Daiguji in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tokyo, where he later joined as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor, focusing on the application of porous materials in next generation building HVAC components. Dr. Shamim has also worked in several industries, including as a Technology Development Engineer at Micron Memory Japan and in early-career engineering roles at Eastern Refinery Limited in Bangladesh.
To date, Dr. Shamim has contributed to more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of thermal-fluid engineering. He is an active ASHRAE member and frequent contributor to its technical programs. His work bridges fundamental research and applied engineering, with international collaborations across academia, national laboratories, and industry. He received the JSRAE Academic Award in 2023 for his contributions to air-conditioning and refrigeration technologies.
