Project Management

John Sanseverino is the deputy project director for the Material Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX). He is matrixed to MPEX from ORNL's Project Management Office. Dr. Sanseverino joined ORNL in the summer of 2012 as the project manager for the Climate Change Science Institute. In late 2017, he joined the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate providing support for the OLCF-5 computer acquisition and the INCITE program.  In 2019, Dr. Sanseverino joined MPEX, a DOE O 413.3b project in DOE's Office of Fusion Energy Sciences, as the project manager. 

He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Lehigh University in 1989 and then joined the Center for Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Tennessee (UT) for a post-doctoral research position. At UT, he earned the rank of Research Associate Professor and was the Managing Director for the Center for Environmental Biotechnology. During that time, he was also the co-founder of two start-up ventures.  In 2010, Dr. Sanseverino joined the Tennessee Solar Institute (TSI) as Director of Programs.  At TSI, he was responsible for developing grant programs, outreach, workforce development activities, and building industry and partnerships. He earned his Project Management Professional certification in 2012.
