Jim Janney is the lead engineer for both the Moderator Reflector Assembly (MRA) and Cryogenic Moderator System (CMS) for the Second Target Station (STS). Jim is responsible for the design and fabrication of the liquid hydrogen moderators, beryllium reflectors, and surrounding structures of the MRA. Jim is also tasked with design and fabrication of the CMS hydrogen system which supplies 20K para hydrogen to the moderators and CMS helium system which removes heat from the hydrogen system. Jim began his career at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) in 2008, working in Target Systems on the target module, mercury process system, proton beam window, and inner reflector plug over the next 11 years. Jim was involved in early STS work starting in 2009, but had to wait until 2019 to join the STS Project full time.
Jim holds a BS and MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
