Janna Nash is a Geographic Information System (GIS) Engineer in the Facilities and Operations, Utilities Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she has been an integral part of the team since 2013. A pivotal moment in her career came when Janna worked on a project to migrate utilities data into Esri mapping software in 2016. This transition was significant as it moved utilities operations away from relying on paper maps to using electronic versions, including mobile devices in the field. This shift has greatly enhanced field efficiency and data accessibility. Since then, Janna has successfully integrated and maintained data for eight utilities, creating analysis tools and supporting Utility Operations through advanced visual mapping techniques. She has also collaborated with staff across other Facilities and Operations divisions at ORNL to link the asset management system to geolocated assets in Esri maps. This integration has enabled her to create informative dashboards, providing staff with a clearer understanding of equipment locations and maintenance issues. Janna holds a Bachelor of Arts from Maryville College and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Before venturing into the GIS field, Janna achieved LEED AP accreditation and consulted on a project that secured LEED Gold certification for an office building on the Maryville College campus. She also conducted energy audits for office buildings, manufacturing plants, and other large facilities. Her professional background includes experience as a Process Engineer in the plastics manufacturing industry. Janna's professional affiliations include being a member of the Tennessee Geographic Information Council (TNGIC). Outside of work, she is passionate about hiking, camping, and traveling, enjoying the chance to explore new destinations and connect with nature. A fun fact about Janna is that she has always enjoyed reading maps and is amazed that her passion has evolved into a fulfilling career in GIS.
