Staff of the International Safeguards Group supporting global nuclear nonproliferation issues for safe, secure, and peaceful nuclear energy. Don Kovacic is a nuclear engineer with over 30 years of experience in design, operations, safety, and nonproliferation issues for nuclear energy covering regions in the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He is currently manages the International Nuclear Safeguards Engagement Program portfolio for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and is also the Regional Lead for all INSEP activities in Sub Saharan Africa. Don recently completed a three year assignment at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria in the Department of Nuclear Energy’s Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Group. There, he was responsible for coordinating IAEA assistance to Member States that were developing the infrastructure for their nuclear power programs. This required collaboration with the Departments of Safety, Security, and Safeguards in order to promote the safe, secure, and peaceful uses of nuclear power as well as effective utilization of IAEA resources and services.Publications
