Curt A Johnson

Curt Johnson is a member of the Power Exhaust and Particle Control Group in the Fusion Energy Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He received his Ph.D. in plasma physics from Auburn University, where his research focused on experimental spectroscopy on the DIII-D and CTH devices. He joined ORNL in 2023 after completing a DOE Fusion Energy Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship centered on the development of experimental imaging spectroscopy instrumentation and synthetic optical diagnostics.

Curt’s research focuses on boundary plasma physics, plasma-material interactions, and advanced optical diagnostics. He has led and contributed to experimental campaigns on both domestic and international fusion devices, including WEST and DIII-D. He is the author and primary developer of the collisional-radiative modeling code ColRadPy.
