Bio
R&D Staff Member in the Manufacturing Automation and Controls group at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) of ORNL. Research resides at the intersection of robotics and materials processing, with broad interests that include sensing, automation, and control in metal additive manufacturing and solid-state processing. Current research is focused on robotics, sensor integration, and the development of multi-modal closed-loop control in metal-Big Area Additive Manufacturing (m-BAAM), with a concentration on laser-based processes, including both directed energy deposition and metal powder bed fusion.
Doctorate (2015) and master’s degree (2011) in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s degree (2009) in mechanical engineering from the West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), a recipient of the SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award in 2017, and a finalist for the SME Aubin AM Case Study Award in 2021.
