R&D Associate - Energy Efficiency Engineer and Researcher

Dr. Blake Billings is an R&D Associate and Energy Engineer in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & analysis (MEERA) Group in the Manufacturing Science Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His research and work at ORNL supports energy efficiency and smarter energy use for manufacturers across the U.S. He supports DOE's Better Plants program, DOE's Onsite Energy Technical Assistance program, and technical assistance and workforce development for energy-intensive industries. His research focuses on industrial load flexibility and analyzing and utilizing industrial interval data. Dr. Billings received his Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University and his Master's and PhD degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Utah. His graduate research focused on grid-responsive smart manufacturing and utilizing process flexibility and storage to respond to signals from the electrical grid. He is an alumnus of the Intermountain Industrial Assessment Center (IIAC) where he was a graduate consultant and program manager. Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Billings was a postdoctoral researcher with the Energy & Geoscience Institute where he was the program manager for Dominion Energy Utah's StepWise energy assistance program. Dr. Billings has extensive experience with energy audits at various small to medium sized manufacturers, commercial buildings, government and public facilities, and is a Certified Energy Manager through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
