Parzyck joined ORNL in 1974 and was director of the Environmental and Occupational Safety Division at ORNL from 1983 to 1988, when he joined Argonne National Laboratory as the director of Quality, Environment and Safety. Prior to joining the staff of the DOE Headquarters Standards Committee in 1995, Parzyck was the assistant lab director of Argonne for five years.
His experience related to devising and using the "necessary and sufficient" process to develop Work Smart Standards at many locations across the DOE system is beneficial for efforts at ORNL. His extensive education and experience in the environment, safety and health areas, such as his work on the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, make him a valuable resource in his new position.
In addition to duties as director of the Office of Environmental Protection, Parzyck will be responsible for organizing and establishing the Integrated Safety Management Program and the Training Integration Office to provide compliance training for ORNL.
Parzyck holds a doctorate from Purdue University.
He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Sigma Xi Research Honor Society and the Health Physics Society.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1970.
Parzyck and his wife, Penelope, live in Tellico Village.
