The grant, presented during a ceremony at the Old Executive Office Building in Washington, is used to fund a project in which teachers work with ORNL researchers to design and pilot an Internet tutorial about energy. The program began with a one-week workshop during which nine teachers were introduced to cutting-edge Internet technology and designed the screens on the Website. Teachers involved in the program are from Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina and New York.
During the first semester, these teachers will pilot this energy transfer module in their classrooms. They will meet again in Oak Ridge to make modifications in the design before permitting an additional set of teachers to pilot the module.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
