ORNL’s Contescu selected as society’s Graffin Lecturer

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Aug. 8, 2016 – The American Carbon Society recently recognized Cristian I. Contescu, a researcher at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as the 2015-2016 George D. Graffin Lecturer.

Contescu, a senior staff scientist in ORNL's Materials Science and Technology Division, delivered a lecture, titled  “This ubiquitous carbon ...” that emphasized the role of carbon as an engine of technological developments spurred by the discovery of fullerenes, nanotubes and graphene materials.

Each year the American Carbon Society selects a lecturer who has made distinguished contributions to carbon science and engineering. The award was presented at last month's 2016 World Conference on Carbon.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States. DOE’s Office of Science is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For more information, please visit energy.gov/science.
