The SERUG is a professional organization for users of the ARC / INFO software, a geographic information systems software developed by the Environmental Systems Research Institute. The software is used for spatial analysis and modeling for many applications, including environmental assessments and monitoring, land-use planning, defense strategies, municipal utilities routing and emergency management.
SERUG membership includes users from 13 southeastern states. The 1995 conference will be held in Knoxville in October.
Scarbrough-Luther is the Environmental Sciences Division Geographic Information System facility manager. She joined ORNL in 1993, and has worked in her current position since.
A native of Paducah, Ky., Scarbrough-Luther received a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, and a master's degree in geosciences and geography from Murray State University. She is a member of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the Association for Women in Science, the League of Women Voters, the Tennessee Geographic Information Council, and the Oak Ridge Area and Southeast Regional ARC / INFO Users' Groups.
She was recently married to Bob Luther, and lives in Clinton.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Martin Marietta Energy Systems, a Lockheed Martin company, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
