ORNL researcher to deliver showcase lecture on textile work

Dr. Glenn Allgood of the Instrumentation & Controls Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will present a showcase lecture at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12, on the topic "The AMTEX Computer-Aided Fabric Evaluation (CAFE) Project: An R&D investment in the U.S. Textile Industry."

The U.S. textile industry has a cooperative research and development agreement with ORNL and DOE to develop improved technology used to produce better and longer-lasting textile products. Allgood oversees the Oak Ridge CAFE program.

He earned an associate degree in mathematics from DeKalb (Ga.) College and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, as well as earned a master's degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in science and mechanics and operation research/management science.

He is married to Janice Allgood, who is employed by ORNL's Chemical and Analytical Sciences Division. The Allgoods reside in Powell.
