In his new capacity, Jardine will be advising graduate students as they conduct research. He is also eligible to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Geological Sciences Department.
Jardine, who joined ORNL in 1986, studies the movement of contaminants in rocks and soil. He received the 1993 Scientific Achievement Award in the Environmental Sciences Division and a 1995 ORNL Research and Development Award for his work in determining the fate and transport of contaminants at laboratory and field scales.
Jardine earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in soil chemistry at the University of Delaware. He received his doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and he was also a post-doctoral research associate in civil engineering at the University of Tennessee.
A resident of West Knoxville, Jardine is married to Shari Jardine. They have one son, Philip A. Jardine, and two other children, Boyd and Andrew Evans.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp.
