The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation's Educational and Human Resources Directorate and Office of Polar Programs. It is designed to provide science educators with research projects and hands-on laboratory experience they can share with students and educators.
Lashley has been an education partnerships team leader and program administrator at ORNL's Office of University and Science Education since 1991. She is formerly the director of ORNL's Ecological and Physical Sciences Study Center, and has been a middle and high school teacher in Knoxville.
She received her bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Wisconsin, and her master's in curriculum and instruction at the University of Tennessee.
Lashley lives in Knoxville with her husband, Dennis. She has two sons, Justin and Carter.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
