Sir Harold Kroto, a 1996 co-winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry, will present a distinguished lecture at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5 in Wigner Auditorium of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Kroto's topic will be C6O Buckminsterfullerene: Not Just A Pretty Molecule. This molecule produces Fullerenes, a family of pure carbon cage molecules that may lead to new developments in chemistry, materials science and technology in the next century.
He is a Royal Society research professor in the School of Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science at the University of Sussex, England.
Kroto earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees in chemistry from the University of Sheffield, England.
